The College of William and Mary, Eastern Virginia Medical School to Explore Merger

The College of William and Mary and the Eastern Virginia Medical School are examining merger opportunities. The concept is drawing warm review, save for EVMS's neighbor in Norfolk, Old Dominion University. ODU President John Broderick would like merger discussions expanded to include ODU.

The potential merger has plenty of upside for institutional synergies, collaboration, rankings and prestige. Another articlereferenced similar mergers in the United States within the past several years, including that of The University of Toledowith the former Medical University of Ohio.
