BONITA JACOBS

Bonita led the merger of Gainesville State College and North Georgia College & State University to form the University of North Georgia (UNG), where she currently serves as the founding president. Previously, Dr. Jacobs served as Executive Director of the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students and Vice President for Student Development at the University of North Texas, and Assistant Vice Chancellor at Western Carolina University.
Before coming to UNG, Jacobs served as Vice President for Student Development and a tenured professor of counseling and higher education at the University of North Texas. She also previously served as Assistant Vice Chancellor and as Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Development at Western Carolina University and in student development positions at Stephen F. Austin State University. She serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and the Board of Trustees for the Georgia Council on Economic Education. Among other books, she is co-author of “Strategic Mergers in Higher Education” (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2019).
